I realized that I never fully updated my tumblr after the end of last quarter. And I had a post mentioning that one of my final projects was to design print and implement a car wrap.
Let me tell you, I was not super stoked for this project. I just didn’t think designing a car wrap for a corporate company could be any fun, and wrapping this car looked like a time consuming waste of time.
So that being said it was, of course, one of the best projects I’ve ever done. I had an epiphany while doodling in the corners of my art history notebook that I didn’t have to do a boring corporate company. I could make this fun. And what got me into art in the first place…? Doodling. Massive, long, drawn-out doodles on graph paper and ruled paper and blank paper. Doodling with Sharpies.
At one point I owned every color of Sharpie they made. I will swear by Sharpie. I will lay my life down for them. They are amazing and you don’t have to be an artist to use them. It truly is an all purpose marker. They make them thick, they make them thin. There is a Sharpie color and weight out there for every person alive. I truly believe that.
So I sat down with 24 hours until this thing was due to print and doodled the heck out of my marker paper, scanned it in, and hoped to God that it printed well.
When I picked it up from press I already knew I was in love, and due to a short stint at a company one of my friend’s mom owned called White Hat I could work a squeegee. We would take vinyl stickers and place them on toolboxes and clipboards and such.
So I sat down and wrapped this car for about 5 hours. And let me tell you, that was some of the best 5 hours of my life. Seriously, there is nothing like putting a record on and looking up 5 hours later wondering where all your time went. I love being that absorbed. It lets me know I chose the correct career path in life.
Seeing this car finished made me so happy.
It needs to be my personal car.
You didn’t think I would wrap anything other than a mustang did you?
