Day 02 - Your least favorite song

Stay- Sugarland

I’m not a huge lover of country music; however I am from Texas and I’ve been spotted once or twice two-steppin’ with a cowboy. Seriously, only once. Or twice.

Still, on Sundays my dad makes breakfast, normally my favorite pancakes, and while he is cooking he likes to turn on the Country Top 40 on TV. In that setting I always appreciated the simple lyrics about life, love and death that is the typical motif in country music. So yes, in a moment of confession of a crime that would probably get me kicked out of my liberal arts school: I will admit to liking some country music.

There are songs like Amarillo Sky that feel so much like Texas that while I am in Georgia and feeling slightly homesick I tend to listen to. Just to feel like I am back in a land with no trees, few people and open spaces. Because sometimes, that is just what I need.

But on the other hand there are songs like this, that I hated so much that I steered clear of country music for months because it was on so often. There is nothing I like about it; not the music, the video, the lyrics. Nothing. I can’t even really explain why. But it repulses me and it was EVERYWHERE for a while.

To be honest it has ruined a lot of Sundays.

Luckily I have many more to look fondly on.
